When I first read this week’s travel theme, I thought it said ‘beaches’. I have loads of photos of beaches which you are probably all sick of seeing by now. ‘Benches’ was a bit trickier though. This is all I have for now although I might manage to take another photo this week.
This bench is at Taronga Zoo in Sydney. We spent Christmas Day there one year when our extended family Christmas plans fell through. I hate spending Christmas all alone (with just us four) in Sydney. This was quite a nice day though. The crowds at the zoo were much smaller than usual – mostly overseas tourists and Muslim and Jewish family groups. There was a special Christmas birds of prey show – always a highlight of any trip to the zoo – and the weather was not stinking hot. Christmas lunch consisted of sandwiches on this bench – although we did go home and have a more snazzy feed later on. Note daughter’s plastic tiara. That was just about permanently attached to her head at that age. I think she only took it off to sleep and bathe.

Yes, think Christmas Day probably the only day in school holidays you can go to the zoo and not be overwhelmed by the crowds.
